Bars, nightclubs, and parties: my greatest professional development tool.

This is another series for 1amgeek that was borne out of years of work and refinement. I started crafting this back in 2009, and as time has gone on I have been able to keep returning to. With 2013 (and those NYE parties) rapidly approaching, I think

It started with a thought on self-actualization. Who are the people most rooted in their realities?

grannies and babies

Little kids and old people.

Toddlers just get along, do their thing, and challenge the world to understand. The elderly have experienced so much that their view of the world is heavily reinforced.

The time in between, however, is a quest for learning social norms, finding your identity within the social construct, and building a lifestyle. It’s a bunch of “I’m unique… wait, how are people accepting this? Do I have some other unique friends who have like interests? Cool…”

The underlying goal of learning to be a professional and working towards self-actualization (again) is being comfortable in your own skin.

The new part about this goal is that it can be met in nightlife. Over the next four posts, I will break down the skills and traits that can be built by going out, with their development being sped up when you go out with the intention to grow, and how they directly relate to success in the workplace and relationships in general.
